We are seeking a passionate and strategic Advocacy Advisor to help strengthen our voice on the issues that matter most to our community. Reporting to the Manager Communications, Advocacy and Engagement, you will lead and support advocacy initiatives that influence positive outcomes for our Shire. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders, government agencies, community groups, and regional partners to develop evidence-based advocacy priorities, campaigns, and partnerships. To learn more visit About the Role As Baw Baw Shire’s Advocacy Advisor, you will work closely with the Manager Communications, Advocacy and Engagement to lead and support advocacy initiatives for the organisation. This includes reviewing and developing Council’s advocacy strategy and delivering the objectives, priorities and actions identified within that to support the Executive, Mayor and Councillors advance key advocacy issues. You will work with key staff and stakeholders to develop advocacy action plans and prepare communications and advocacy material including fact sheets, briefings, media releases, publications, presentations and submissions underpinned by data and research that provides a robust evidence base to advance advocacy priorities. About the Successful Candidate To be successful in this position, you will have:
- The ability to write for a variety of mediums and audiences, including media releases, speeches etc.
- Ability to research and proof editorial content for advertising copy and speeches.
- Knowledge of and understanding of media
- Knowledge and understanding of the economic, political and social issues relating to Local Government environment is preferred.
- Strong computer skills in MS Office.
- Experience using programs and software such as Open Cities and media monitoring systems. This is preferred but not essential.
- Photography skills preferred but not essential.
- Demonstrated skills in the development of communications strategies.
