Senior Project Accountant | Large ASX Listed Company (New …, New South Wales

Senior project accounting role driving commercial insight, leading teams, and partnering on major infrastructure projects in a high-growth business. This is a commercially focused role where you'll partner with operations to drive performance, improve margins, and deliver meaningful financial insights. The Role:
- Take ownership of the financial performance of multiple projects, including cost control, margin analysis, and profitability tracking
- Deliver accurate and timely month-end reporting, including journals, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Partner closely with Project Managers and operational teams to translate financial data into actionable insights
- Analyse key performance drivers (margins, overheads, cost structures) to support commercial decision-making and performance improvement
- Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts, ensuring assumptions are robust and aligned to project realities
- Oversee project setup and financial structures (WBS, cost allocations), ensuring strong governance and accuracy
- Manage billing cycles, WIP, and cash collection, proactively identifying risks and driving resolution of aged balances
- Identify and implement process improvements, helping to streamline reporting and enhance data quality
- Mentor and support junior finance staff, contributing to a high-performing and cooperative team environment About You:
- CA/CPA qualified (or near completion) with 5+ years' experience in a similar role in a large organisation
- Strong background in project / contract accounting (infrastructure, engineering or services industry)
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to partner with operational leaders and influence decision-making
- Demonstrated capability in managing and consolidating large volumes of data, with the ability to extract insights and build meaningful reports directly from source systems
- Ability to lead and develop teams, including Project Accountants and Finance Administration staff
- Commercial mindset with a strong understanding of project profitability, cost drivers, and performance levers
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
