The Crisis Stabilisation Centre (CSC) is a first‑of‑its‑kind service in South Australia and a rare opportunity to help establish an entirely new model of crisis care from the ground up. This 16‑bed, 24/7 service provides a voluntary, short‑stay (up to 72 hours) alternative to Emergency Departments, offering a safe, therapeutic, home‑like environment for people experiencing mental health crisis and/or suicidal distress. Co‑located within the Lyell McEwin Hospital precinct alongside Sonder’s Medicare Mental Health Centre, the CSC is designed for seamless integration across hospital, urgent and community services. Guided by a co‑designed Peer First, Peer Last Philosophy of Care, and grounded in zero suicide principles, trauma‑informed practice and cultural safety, this new service represents a once‑in‑a‑career opportunity to help shape culture, practice, and care at the very beginning. Hours: 9-5 Monday to Friday Contract: Full-Time roles 1.0FTE,Ongoing Location: Elizabeth Vale (Lyell McEwin Hospital precinct) More Information & Position Description via this link: About the Role: The Family Peer Practitioner is a lived experience role within the Crisis Stabilisation Centre (CSC), part of the Integrated Crisis Support Hub. Drawing on their own experience as a family member, carer, or supporter of someone with mental health challenges, the Family Peer Practitioner provides peer support and genuine connection to the families and carers of guests accessing the CSC. Using a strengths-based, recovery-oriented approach, they act as a role model of hope for families navigating a loved one's mental health crisis, championing their voices and ensuring their perspectives are valued within the service. This role operates under direction as part of the multidisciplinary team and is supported by the Peer Practice Lead – CSC, Senior Peer Practitioners, Nursing Lead, Allied Health Lead, and broader CSC leadership. Experience Requirements:
- Personal lived experience as a family member, carer, or supporter of someone who has experienced mental health challenges, and the ability to draw on this experience purposefully and safely in a professional context.
- Demonstrated experience working within a fast-paced setting.
- Previous experience in a Family Peer Practitioner, lived experience, or family/carer peer support worker role.
- Previous experience in an immediate access or crisis care setting is desirable.
- Experience using databases, electronic case management systems, and computer systems Qualification and Other Requirements:
- Certificate IV in Peer Work or equivalent qualification with demonstrated experience in a lived experience, Family Peer Practitioner, or family/carer peer support worker role, or willingness to obtain.
- Certificate IV in Mental Health or a related field is desirable.
