- Salary commencing at $85,114.74 per annum, plus 12% superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.
- Band 5. The Opportunity Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a knowledgeable and community-focused Inspecting Arborist to join our City Presentation team. In this role, you will undertake proactive and reactive tree inspections across streets, parks and reserves, helping to maintain the health, safety and longevity of Council's urban forest. Working closely with residents, contractors and internal stakeholders, you will provide professional arboricultural advice, respond to tree-related enquiries, assess tree condition and risk, and coordinate appropriate maintenance outcomes in line with Council policies and service standards. You will also contribute to permit assessments, support operational arboriculture programs and assist in improving systems and processes that support effective tree management across the municipality. Key Responsibilities
- Undertake proactive and reactive inspections of Council-managed trees across streets, parks and reserves.
- Assess tree condition, risk and maintenance requirements, raising works in Council's asset management system where required.
- Respond to tree-related enquiries and escalated matters with professionalism, consistency and clear communication.
- Provide technical input into permit assessments and support compliance and tree protection processes.
- Assist in the planning and monitoring of arboricultural programs, including Electric Line Clearance activities.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and asset data using mobile technology and Council systems.
- Support contractor supervision and ensure arboricultural works are delivered safely and in line with quality standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance arboriculture operations, safety and service delivery. Skills & Experience The successful candidate will hold a Diploma of Arboriculture (or equivalent) and a recognised tree risk assessment qualification such as ISA TRAQ, QTRA or VALID. You will have demonstrated experience undertaking urban tree inspections, assessing tree health and risk, and responding to community enquiries within a local government or similar setting. Strong knowledge of arboricultural principles, tree maintenance practices and relevant legislation is essential, along with the ability to apply sound judgement and deliver consistent, policy-based outcomes. Experience using asset management systems such as Confirm, excellent communication and customer service skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a field-based environment are highly valued. A current Victorian Driver's Licence is required, with an MR endorsement desirable. Certificate II in ESI Powerline Vegetation Control, or willingness to obtain, is also required.
