Construction Estimator R2 Sheet Metal & Fabrication Pty Ltd The Construction Estimator role at Sheet Metal & Fabrication Pty Ltd is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical ductwork projects. The role involves reviewing engineering plans, specifications, and tender documents to determine project scope, performing detailed quantity take-offs and costings using Autodesk Est MEP, and sourcing and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure cost efficiency. The position also includes preparing and submitting tender proposals within strict deadlines, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and assessing financial risks associated with bids. The Estimator works closely with the Managing Director, Operations Manager, and clients to ensure estimates accurately reflect project requirements and commercial expectations. In addition, the role supports the updating and sourcing of cost databases, managing tender documentations and correspondences, and follows up on submitted bids to improve project award success rates. It also assists the operations team with ductwork fabrication data preparation using Autodesk CAMDuct, contributing to smooth project delivery from estimation through production planning. - Analysing mechanical ductwork system plans, specifications and tender documents to determine project scope and requirements;
- Preparing detailed cost estimates and quantity take-offs for materials and labour using Autodesk Est MEP;
- Sourcing and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure competitive pricing;
- Compiling and submitting tender documents and cost proposals in accordance with project deadlines;
- Identifying cost-saving opportunities and assessing financial risks associated with project bids;
- Liaising with the managing director, operations manager and clients to ensure project scope and pricing are accurately reflected in estimates;
- Maintaining and updating the company cost database to reflect current material and labour pricing:
- Recording and managing tender documentation and correspondence in shared filing systems and databases;
- Monitoring and following up outstanding tenders and quotations to maximise project award opportunities; and
- Supporting the operations team in the preparation and input of ductwork fabrication data using Autodesk CAMDuct. Requirements
- Holds relevant qualifications in engineering, construction management, mechanical services, or a related technical discipline, with trade experience in sheet metal fabrication or HVAC is considered as an advantage.
- Proven experience in estimating, cost planning, or tender preparation within HVAC, ductwork or sheet metal manufacturing.
- Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, technical specifications, and tender documents to prepare accurate quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
- Proficiency in estimating and design software such as Autodesk Est MEP, with familiarity in Autodesk CAMDuct or similar fabrication/estimating tools.
- Solid analytical and numerical skills with the ability to assess material, labour, and subcontractor costs, while identifying cost-saving and value engineering opportunities.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with management, clients, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure accurate and competitive tender submissions.
