A long-established Western Australian footwear business is seeking an Apprentice Boot Maker / Footwear Maker to support the production of handmade sheepskin boots and related products. This is a rare opportunity to develop practical skills in traditional footwear making, leatherwork, sheepskin production and small-batch Australian manufacturing. The role would suit someone who enjoys working with their hands, takes pride in quality work and is interested in learning a specialist trade. About the role You will be trained in the making and finishing of handmade sheepskin boots and related products. Working alongside experienced makers, you will learn the workshop process from start to finish. The role may include learning how to:
- Cut sheepskin, leather and textile materials
- Use industrial sewing machines safely and accurately
- Assemble and finish handmade boots
- Work from patterns, templates and production instructions
- Prepare materials for small-batch production
- Check products for quality and consistency
- Maintain tools, materials and an organised workshop
- Support the development of related handmade goods We are looking for someone reliable, practical and keen to learn. Prior boot making experience is not required, but you should have a strong interest in hands-on work and craftsmanship. This role may suit someone with an interest in:
- Footwear making or repair
- Leatherwork or textiles
- Sewing, garment construction or upholstery
- Design, fashion, costume or product making
- Practical workshop-based trades
- Australian-made products and traditional craft Ideal skills and attributes
- Good attention to detail
