Position Title: Aboriginal Intensive Family Support Worker (50D) Aboriginality is an essential criterion and is provided for in accordance with section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 Department: Intensive Family Support Service Midwest & Gascoyne Location: Meekatharra (Possibility of DIDO from Geraldton) Reports to: Coordinator – Intensive Family Support Service Employment Status: FTE 0.8 – 32 hours per week – 4 days per week Closing Time: Friday, 26th June 2026 at 5pm AWST ABOUT THE POSITION The Aboriginal Intensive Family Support Worker (50D) is responsible for engaging and working with identified Aboriginal Families to prevent the need for children to enter out of home care. The role is key to assisting planning with Department of Communities (DoC) District staff and others to develop community and family capacity to provide a safe environment for children and other vulnerable people. The aim is to strengthen families’ capacities to provide safe care by increasing child safety through the Intensive Family Support approach, providing intensive in-home support services and case management for Aboriginal children in ways that are practical and flexible, in alignment with the Department of Communities Case Plan with the family, and responsive to the cultural needs of the family. Although this role is based in Meekatharra, we are open to a DIDO option from Geraldton. ABOUT BUNDIYARRA ABORIGINAL COMMUNITY (ABORIGINAL CORPORATION) The Aboriginal Intensive Family Support Worker will be employed by Bundiyarra to fulfil a role as part of the Intensive Family Support Service team. Bundiyarra is a community-based non-profit overseen by a Board of Governance and operationally managed by a Chief Executive Officer. The Intensive Family Support Worker will need to operate as a valuable member of the Team and as such will be required to consistently apply an understanding of the organisations Vision, Mission, and Values:

- Maintain an active case load as directed by the Line Manager
- Provide one to one intervention based on the family’s needs and goals through intensive therapeutic interventions.
- Work in line with Trauma Informed Practice Principles, the Bundiyarra Therapeutic Intervention Model of Care, and the Bundiyarra cultural protocols.
- Develop and monitor assessments and case plans for the service users including case reviews and safety planning in line with the Service User Journey.
- Ensure appropriate therapeutic and/or community and government support service users either directly or by referral.
- Identify, assess and respond to safety concerns of service users in line with Bundiyarra and MercyCare’s (partner organisation) incident management procedures.
- Undertake activities which may require the exercise of judgement and/or contribute critical knowledge and skills where procedures are not clearly defined.
- Support and participate in the Intake process as directed by the Line Manager.
- Work in accordance with the program guidelines and contractual requirements. People Engagement
- Participate in community forums, reference groups and projects as directed by the Line Manager.
- Establish and maintain connections and networks with relevant support services and government organisations.
- Provide intense intervention support to service users through trauma informed practice, person-centred and strengths-based strategies.
- Participate in Multidisciplinary Stakeholder meetings as required.
- Participate in case review meetings with internal and external stakeholders related to the family. Operational Excellence
- Work within a records management service for the receipt, custody, control, preservation and retrieval of records and related service user material through maintaining timely, accurate and comprehensive records of intervention including assessment and case notes.
- Complete incident reporting for safety concerns as required.
- Ensure the Line Manager is aware and informed of issues and developments in the internal and external environment.
- Undertake additional business duties as requested by the Line Manager.
- Participate in regular Supervision, both individually and within a group, as directed by the Line Manager. Safeguarding Children
- Provides a welcoming and safe environment for children and young people.
- Adheres to Bundiyarra and MercyCare’s (partner organisation) Safeguarding Children and Young People Procedure in relation to the appropriate treatment of children.
- Promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people who come into contact with the service.
- Ensures that interactions with children and young people are positive and safe.
- Provides adequate care and supervision of children and young people in your charge.
- Acts as a positive role model for children and young people.
- Reports any suspicions, concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse to management in a timely manner.
- Raise any concerns about abuse or neglect of children or young people with the Safeguarding and Inclusion Officer where needed.
- Reports any relevant police matters that arise during your period of employment including criminal charges or convictions. Occupational Safety and Health
- Ensures safe working environments are provided for employees, volunteers, contractors and visitors.
- Models compliance with relevant legislation, professional standards, policies, procedures and instructions.
- Ensures that all risk, hazards and incidents are investigated, and adequate controls applied.
- Consults with employees and their representatives on safety and health matters. DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY Authority to commit resources of the service in line with the Bundiyarra and MercyCare (partner organisation) Operational Delegations of Authority. POSITION DEMANDS (including physical demands, challenges of the sector etc) Position demands include:
- The ability to travel around the Mid-West and Gascoyne region.
- The ability to work out of typical office hours
- The ability and sensitivity to work in emotive and medium to high-risk environments while maintaining one’s own wellbeing, resilience and performance, in a remote location. POSITION HOLDER REQUIREMENTS Formal Qualifications
- Qualifications within the Community Services Sector preferred but not required. Skills, knowledge and experience (including technical skills)
- Experience in delivering therapeutic interventions to service users that are evidence-based.
- Experience working with service users who are considered at risk or are presenting with complex issues.
- Experience and knowledge in working with diverse cultures and communities.
- Experience in case work practice within the community service or health sectors.
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good administrative, recording and case management documentation skills with experience using online platforms and Microsoft Office suite.
- Demonstrated ability to be innovative, flexible and work autonomously (where required).
- Demonstrates an understanding with Bundiyarra and MercyCare’s (partner organisation) policy and procedures in identifying and reporting of any risk and/or compliance related issues, hazards, concerns or incidents (including near misses).
- Demonstrates an understanding of your own safety and that of others in the workplace. Special Conditions, Registration/s, Licenses
- Current Driver’s license
- Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- National Police Clearance (obtained within the last six months)
