**About the Opportunity** The Liverpool Public Health Unit undertakes tobacco compliance and education activities relating to tobacco advertising, sales, and smoke free environment legislation. It is also involved in the seizure of illegal tobacco or vaping products.

These activities help to reduce the harm done to our community by tobacco products.

This position will support our existing tobacco officer and will work with Environmental Health staff, NSW Ministry of Health Tobacco Unit, Police and other agencies as needed.

The role is full-time but reduced hours can be considered.

**What You'll be Doing** The role of the Environmental Health and Tobacco Compliance/ Education Officer is primarily to manage the Public Health Unit’s tobacco compliance and education activities by co-ordinating and conducting sales to minors, tobacco advertising, and smoke free environment programs, including inspections and surveys, education and training, evaluation, promotion and implementing legal proceedings. The position will also undertake some general environmental health duties to support the environmental health team in responding to major issues and incidents as required from time to time, and will report to the team coordinator. The officer will be also required to undertake some activities outside normal business hours.

**How to Apply**
- A degree or equivalent in Applied Science (Environmental Health), or an equivalent qualification acceptable for qualified membership to Environmental Health Australia.
- Can you outline your knowledge of, and experience with, tobacco control legislation in NSW.
- This position may involve evidence gathering, preparation of legal briefs, and attendance at court to help conduct prosecutions. Can you outline your experience in these matters. Are there any challenges to performing these legalistic roles?
- The position can require meeting specific deadlines, and working at times with mínimal supervision. How does your approach to work satisfy these two needs?
- Approaching business owners can be contentious. Can you describe a situation from your work where the interaction started to become heated. What was your approach? What was the outcome? Is there anything you might have done differently?
- Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
