Financial Controller (Prestons)

Key Responsibilities Oversee all financial operations including accounting, reporting, budgeting, and compliance. Lead, mentor, and develop the Bookkeeper to ensure accuracy and efficiency across transactional finance. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards. Manage cash flow, working capital, and financial controls to support business stability and growth. Develop and maintain budgeting and forecasting models, providing insights and recommendations to the CEO. Conduct variance analysis and provide commentary on business performance. Oversee payroll, AP/AR, bank reconciliations, and end of month processes. Ensure compliance with tax obligations including BAS, PAYG, FBT, and superannuation. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support retail operations, inventory management, and cost control. Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and financial best practice across the organisation. Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions as required. Various other ad-hoc projects as required by business. Skills & Experience Minimum 5 year's experience in a Financial Controller or Senior Accountant role, ideally within retail. CA/CPA qualified Robust technical accounting knowledge and understanding of Australian accounting standards. Proven experience managing end to end finance functions in an SME or mid sized business in retail an advantage. Hands on leadership style with the ability to mentor and develop a small team. High level of proficiency in accounting systems and Excel. Strong commercial acumen with the ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic insights. Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work closely with the CEO and senior stakeholders. Detail oriented, organised, and proactive in identifying improvements.
