We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Chef to join our team on a full-time basis. The successful applicant will play an important role in preparing high-quality meals, supporting menu development, maintaining kitchen standards and contributing to the smooth daily operation of the café and restaurant. Position – Chef | Butlers Kitchen, Narre Warren, VIC Key Responsibilities
- Preparing, cooking and presenting a variety of café and restaurant dishes in accordance with Butlers Kitchen’s menu style, service standards and customer expectations.
- Assisting in the development and refinement of menus, including breakfast, lunch, seasonal specials and function-style offerings suitable for the venue’s diverse customer base.
- Estimating food requirements, portion sizes, preparation needs and labour requirements to support efficient kitchen operations and minimise wastage.
- Ordering and managing food supplies, fresh produce and kitchen ingredients while maintaining appropriate stock levels for daily trading and peak service periods.
- Checking the quality, freshness and suitability of ingredients before preparation and ensuring finished dishes meet the required standard before being served.
- Monitoring dishes throughout preparation, cooking and plating to ensure consistency in flavour, presentation, portion control and overall quality.
- Coordinating with managers, kitchen staff and front-of-house staff regarding menu availability, customer requests, food preparation issues, service timing and special dietary requirements.
- Demonstrating appropriate cooking methods, food preparation techniques and plating procedures to junior kitchen staff to ensure consistency across the kitchen.
- Supervising and guiding kitchen staff during service to maintain workflow, cleanliness, food safety and timely delivery of meals.
- Ensuring all food is prepared and stored in compliance with hygiene, food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment, including proper handling of equipment, cleaning procedures and safe food storage practices.
- Assisting in the training of kitchen staff where required, including induction, food preparation standards, hygiene practices and service procedures.
- Preparing ingredients, sauces, stocks, fillings and other kitchen items in advance to support smooth service during busy trading periods.
- Freezing, storing and preserving food items where appropriate, ensuring correct labelling, rotation and compliance with food safety standards.
- Supporting kitchen efficiency by reducing waste, improving preparation processes and ensuring ingredients are used effectively.
- Working with management to maintain consistent food quality, customer satisfaction and a positive dining experience for guests.
- Contributing ideas for new dishes, specials and menu improvements that reflect the venue’s modern café and restaurant concept.
- Ensuring kitchen equipment is used safely and reporting any maintenance or operational issues to management. Required Qualifications and Experience
- At least 1 year of relevant experience as a Chef or in a similar commercial kitchen role; and
- An AQF associate degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Commercial Cookery, Hospitality or a relevant field. Hours: 38 hours per week
- Full-time Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation per annum Personal Attributes
