Reporting to the Automation & Performance Manager, this role provides development coaching and leadership to Automation Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Testers and Software Engineers on techniques and practices for implementing quality through the delivery lifecycle. Your collaboration with cross-functional teams will ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality, reliable, and scalable software solutions.
- Strong foundation in software engineering, born of building and maintaining production code, culminating in a current penchant for software quality.
- Strong problem solving skill with the ability to have face to face conversations, visualising problems on whiteboards and cross functional collaboration.
- You believe that we can't improve what we don't measure and value the gathering and publishing of metrics that drive the business case for the continuous improvement of quality.
- Ability to collaborate with developers on how to best write expressive automated tests that run quickly and reliably and fail for useful reasons.
- Ability to develop new supporting tools and/or introduce recent ways of building software
- Strong background and understanding on coding best practices
- Working closely with Automation & Performance Manager, provide input on the automation strategy to ensure we have sustainable and scalable automation solution.
- You're passionate about simple, clean, loosely coupled software and know what it looks like.
- Ability to support pair programming, and supporting others to understand what good code looks like and why.

In this role you can expect to be doing things like:
- Embedded consulting within delivery teams to establish test automation approaches tailored for the team and the software they need to deliver and maintain
- Designing and building tools that help delivery teams automate their testing more efficiently
- Working with DevOps cohort to setup and maintain infrastructure as code for test automation platforms and tooling
- Pairing with developers, test engineers and senior test engineers to knowledge share and solicit coalface feedback with respect to all aspects of code quality
- Helping resolve particularly complex problems that the team has not experienced
- Automation tool evaluation and analysis
- Curation of automation code standards
- Backlog prioritisation
**Qualifications & experience**
**Essential**: To be effective in this role you should have experience of writing, testing and operating code using:
- Java 7+
- A SPA frontend framework, ideally Angular 7+
- GitLab
- Terraform
- Docker
Technical Skills:
- Experience with multiple coding languages such Java, JavaScript/Kotlin/TypeScript Experience with testing frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress.io, Playwright, etc Experience with CI/CD tools
- GitLab, BitBucket, Bamboo, AWS, Azure Devops
Experience
- Min 5 years years leading mature Technical Test teams
- Extensive Experience developing, implementing and maintaining Automated Test Frameworks
- Demonstrated knowledge in the creation and maintenance of CI pipelines and best practices relating Test Automation in CI/CD delivery
- Coordination of Test Automated activities in IT related projects
- Understanding of AGILE testing methods and the role Test Automation plays
- Demonstrated high level of knowledge in automated test practices, tools and techniques
- Excellent communication skills, including with technical staff, end-users and management. The ability to assimilate information quickly, and present findings in a concise and meaningful way is key.
- Demonstrated skill in developing clear objectives and establishing work priorities and time frames.
- Demonstrated sound skills in problem solving, time and resource management, and the ability to work independently and with limited supervision
- Self-motivated and proactive
- able to work to clearly defined and structured plans, but also plan and organise own workload, to achieve tight deadlines.
- Pragmatic and resilient during change.

- Postgraduate degree.
- Affiliation with Technology Institutes.
- Professional certifications in software testing (e.g., ISTQB) or related fields will be a plus.
