About Us Macquarie Accounting is a boutique firm of 12 in Hobart, established in 1992. Five of those are managing partners — which means direct access, real mentoring, and no layers of middle management between you and the people who make decisions. We work across a genuinely diverse client base — fishing, medical and allied health, construction, legal practices, retail, SMSFs, and high-net-worth individuals. You'll see real variety week to week, not the same returns on repeat. We use Xero, XPM, and BGL SF360 — and we invest in tech so our people spend time thinking, not processing. The Role — What You'll Actually Do This is a senior-level position. You'll own your work, lead others, and be trusted to represent the firm directly with clients.
- Own a client portfolio with minimal supervision — you're the trusted point of contact
- Prepare and review financial statements and tax returns across individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships, and SMSFs
- Review and sign off on junior and intermediate work
- Coach and develop junior staff
- Provide tax structuring and advisory input on complex matters
- Contribute to workflow, process, and practice improvement — the kind of work a senior at a Big 4 firm would recognise You'll report directly to one of our five managing partners. Start date: Immediate start, or by arrangement. Who We're Looking For You must have:
- A degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Business (Accounting major)
- CA or CPA qualified — or well into completion
- Genuine experience in Australian public practice — 5+ years
- A track record of managing your own client workload without being chased
- Australian work rights with no restrictions You'll stand out if you have:
- SMSF experience, particularly with BGL SF360
- Xero advisory or client-facing exposure
- Experience reviewing or mentoring junior staff If your experience is solely in commerce, industry, or offshore practice — this role isn't the right fit at this time. What We Offer
