- **Hours Per Week**: 38 **Requisition ID**: CAM27354 An exciting opportunity to join the Orthopaedic team in the Theatres Department at Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospital. You will be working with our Specialist Surgical Team who will provide you with the support and guidance as you continue to develop and master your Orthopaedic surgical skills. Our ‘A’ grade rating for JMO Wellbeing, is a result of the collaborative, versatile and supportive environment we provide our Junior Medical Officers.

**Where you'll be working** Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital is a major metropolitan teaching hospital. Patients can access a range of services including coronary care, intensive care, orthopaedics, general medicine, surgical, obstetric, respiratory, rehabilitation, paediatric, maternity and emergency care. The hospital also provides a wide range of outpatient services including allied health, dental and podiatry clinics, child, adolescent and family health, drug and alcohol, health promotion and rehabilitation and aged care. An acute mental health service is co-located at Hornsby Hospital. The new $265 million Stage 2 redevelopment was officially opened in June 2022.

**What you'll be doing**

The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of surgical patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The Orthopaedic unaccredited trainee is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality. Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the Orthopaedic unaccredited trainee’s skills, knowledge and experience. They will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding a patient’s care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
- Experience and qualifications commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- High level communication skills, both written and verbal
- Skills in time management, prioritisation and problem solving
- Commitment to own continuing professional development and self-education
- Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety
- At least three years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).
