Description
Support, coach and develop staff to effectively conduct their duties and identify opportunities for supporting Cultural Liaison Officers in effective operations and the effective delivery of programs.
- Co-facilitate criminogenic and desistence programs targeted at addressing identified prisoner rehabilitation needs specifically those programs that focus on meeting the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners.
- Complete program exit reports and other relevant documentation and ensure that case notes are entered into the Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS).
- Completion of Agency Supervisor and Program Facilitator training.
- Provide program supervision for cultural programs in accordance with Accountability Standards and QCS supervision model/approach.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to manage the progression of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners through the correctional system including the assessment of prisoners and the provision of reports to sentence management and qualified staff on the outcomes of those assessments.
- Participate in planning activities to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait prisoners have timely access to appropriate programs and interventions.
- Work autonomously within legislative constraints, provide expert support and advice to stakeholders and centre management across a range of culturally appropriate programs or activities undertaken by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners.
- Investigate, analyse, interpret and evaluate information pertaining to cultural issues for the guidance of Senior Management and staff.
- Prepare briefings, reports, consultation documents and other written material.
- Set priorities and develop local strategies, procedures and work practices that relate to a multicultural environment or similar.
- Initiate, encourage and facilitate greater engagement with community groups/networks for the purpose of increasing post release family support structures.
- In conjunction with the Staff Training Coordinator, identify training needs for staff and assist in the delivery of programs and activities that will enhance a greater awareness of cultures and issues.
- Represent the Correctional Centre and the QCS at community meetings, conferences or seminars.
- Control and/or coordinate projects or programs in accordance with agency and community initiatives and review operations to determine their effectiveness.
- Establish supportive environments and strong links with other agencies and local communities and stakeholders in the development of policy and programs Liaise with and coordinate Elder visits to the correctional centre as schedule.
- Promote and coordinate Family Visits Days and other culturally significant activities.
- Liaise with the Murridhagun Cultural Centre as a priority reference point.
- Develop productive relationships with service providers and First Nations community networks to enhance the community's regard for Aboriginal and Torres Strait offender programs.
