About the role The Clinical Coding Service is responsible for assigning codes to each patient's admission to accurately reflect the condition each patient had and the treatment received. Clinical coding involves the process of assigning ICD-10-AM codes to each inpatient admission. This information is then entered into HBCIS via the 3M Codefinder software through an interface. The Trainee Clinical Coder will receive support to code health care records both from a theoretical and practical perspective, under supervision. The Trainee Clinical Coder will operate as a member of the Clinical Coding Service and the wider Health Information Management Service which will include liaising effectively with health professionals. About you
- Clinical coding skills using ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS (International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision, Australian Modification/ Australian Classification of Health Interventions/ Australian Coding Standards) with a good working knowledge of anatomy, clinical disease processes, medical practices, pharmacology, diagnostic and procedural terminology.
- Ability to participate in quality improvement activities (including coding audits) in relation to coded data and coding processes.
- High level interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) and negotiation skills with the ability to liaise with staff at all levels.

**Mandatory Requirements**:

- Successfully completed a recognised ICD-10-AM clinical coder course and a medical terminology course.
- Whilst not mandatory, a driver's licence would be highly advantageous as this position will require travel to other facilities to undertake clinical coding activities.
