**POSITION PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE**
The position is responsible for undertaking a broad range of maintenance and civil construction ctivities including but not be limited to the construction of roads, signage installation, drainage, footpaths, gravel re-sheeting, heavy patching, bridgework, reconstruction of culverts, kerb and gutter.
This position is responsible for providing daily leadership and onsite direction to team members and to provide support to the Coordinator to ensure the section runs efficiently to complete the required tasks.

**Key External Relationships**:Residents and community groups; business and other representatives; other councils, government departments and agencies; suppliers and business contacts for maintenance and operations support
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Carry out construction and maintenance activities on signs, carparks, retaining walls,
roads, footpaths, bridges, stormwater, culverts, kerb and gutter and weed control management for civil asset types.
- Coordinate operations of plant and general labouring for plant and equipment on a
variety of construction and maintenance works.
- Interpretation of complex civil plans, works requirements, work set-out and
coordination of works materials and plant.
- Ensure assigned plant and tools are maintained to support operational activities.
- Carry out construction planning and scheduling as required to meet the team tasks
such as; dial before you dig, pre-site establishment, operation of plant and equipment, traffic control and general labouring duties.
- Provide technical support, advice and assistance to Coordinator and team members,
with a specific focus on solution driven outcomes.
- Determine and implement appropriate safety standards and ensure compliance with
the requirements of the WHS Act for work activities and for team.
- Actively work within Councils environmental policies, procedures and systems of work
such as environmental assessments.
- Manage staff performance, through active leadership, coaching and mentoring, setting
expectations for performance and work with staff to achieve assigned duties for the team
- Promote a positive and harmonious work setting and a culture of a can-do
attitude through leading staff performance
- Utilise technology based systems for construction and maintenance works activities
and records management
- Proactive approach to problem solving and flexible nature to change work direction for
an operational advantage
- Support your Coordinator, Program Leader and Manager in other duties as directed
that is within the scope of your skills, competenency and training
- During natural disasters, emergencies, significant organisational change and
extraordinatory circumstances you may be required to under reasonable management direction to undertake alternative responsibilities within your areas of Council in line with your skills, competence and training.
