The Opportunity We are looking for an experienced Excavator Operator with strong machine skills, good judgement and a safety-first approach. This role will suit someone who is confident working around live underground assets, understands the importance of careful excavation, and is willing to assist with broader civil maintenance tasks when required. You will be joining a supportive team environment where you are treated as a valued part of the business, not just another number. Full training in our systems, procedures and client requirements will be provided during your onboarding period. What You’ll Be Doing In this role, you will be involved in a variety of civil maintenance and utility support works, including:
- Safely operating excavators around live gas, electrical and other underground services
- Completing precision excavation in high-risk environments
- Assisting with non-destructive excavation and service proving activities
- Supporting emergency response and reactive maintenance works
- Carrying out general civil maintenance tasks, including concreting, fencing, landscaping and minor repairs
- Assisting with specialist works such as tree removal or asbestos-related works where appropriately trained and ticketed
- Using mobile devices to record job information, photos and work progress
- Working closely with supervisors, coordinators and field crews to deliver protected, high-quality outcomes What We’re Looking For We are seeking someone with:
- Excavator competency ticket
- Minimum 5 years’ experience operating excavators, preferably in civil maintenance or utility environments
- Demonstrated experience working safely around live underground assets
- Construction White Card
- MR truck licence as a minimum
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- A practical, team-focused attitude
- Good communication skills and willingness to follow site procedures
- Confidence using mobile phones or tablets for job logging and reporting, with training provided Additional tickets such as asbestos removal, traffic management, chainsaw, EWP, first aid or other plant competencies would be highly regarded. Other Requirements As part of this role, you will need to be willing and able to:
- Join an on-call roster following successful probation and training
- Work early starts when required
- Complete occasional late finishes, weekend work or emergency response works
- Work safely and professionally in live utility environments
