Make a real impact in community resilience and emergency management North Burnett Regional Council is seeking a motivated and experienced Disaster Management Officer to play a pivotal role in strengthening the region’s preparedness, response, recovery, and resilience to disaster events. This is a hands-on and highly collaborative role where you will work closely with emergency services, government agencies, community organisations, businesses, and internal Council teams to support and coordinate disaster management across the North Burnett region. Position Details:

About the Role Are you passionate about building stronger more resilient communities? As the Disaster Management Officer, you will play a vital role in strengthening Council’s disaster capability by coordinating prevention, preparedness, response and recovery (PPRR) activities associated with disaster events across the North Burnett. In this dynamic role you will contribute to the coordination and delivery of Council’s disaster management arrangements, support operational response during activations and recovery efforts, build trusted relationships and work collaboratively with various stakeholders. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, implementing and reviewing all relevant Local Disaster Management plans, documents, policies and procedures.
- Providing specialist advice on disaster management practice, programs, initiatives.
- Supporting the Local Disaster Coordinator during disaster events and providing secretariat support to the Local Disaster Management Group
- Coordinating and delivering community engagement initiatives, educational awareness and preparedness campaigns.
- Planning and delivering disaster mitigation and community resilience projects including grant funded projects.
- Building and maintaining solid partnerships with key stakeholders across all levels of government, non-government organisations and the community
- Preparing high-quality reports, plans, briefings and grant funding applications. About You We are seeking someone who brings strong disaster management expertise and the ability to operate effectively under pressure. To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- At least 3 years’ experience in disaster management or a similar field, preferably within local government
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes on time and within budget
- Highly developed communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders and community groups
- Experience in community engagement, training coordination, and resilience building initiatives
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of professionalism and discretion
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and corporate management systems
- Ability to work flexibly, including outside standard hours during disaster events Qualifications & Requirements
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence
- Positive Notice Blue Card
