Experienced Dog Trainer (Coldstream)

**Position: Dog Trainer**

**Location: Coldstream, Victoria**

**Contract: Casual roster, sub-contractor agreement**

**Key Responsibilities**: **Group Training Classes**:
- Lead and instruct group dog training classes, including:

- _ Puppy classes_
- _ Adolescent dog classes_
- _ Basic obedience classes_
- _ Advanced classes (if applicable)_
- Utilize a force-free, reinforcement based training approach in all classes.
- Provide clear, constructive feedback to dog owners and offer guidance on how to perform training techniques at home.
- Ensure a protected and welcoming environment for all dogs and clients using environmental management.

**Private One-on-One Consultations**:
- Provide private dog training sessions tailored to clients’ specific needs, including behavioural concerns, obedience, and manners.
- Develop individualised training plans and offer follow-up support to clients.

**Client Support and Communication**:
- Maintain ongoing communication with clients to track their dog’s progress.
- Offer additional resources or recommendations to help clients succeed in their dog’s training journey.
- Send e-learning materials for course participants to engage in between classes.

**Professional Development**:
- Stay up-to-date on the latest in dog training methods and animal behaviour sciences.
- Attend relevant seminars, workshops, and conferences as needed.

**Qualifications**: **Experience**:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in dog training.
- Experience teaching group dog training classes in some capacity

**Skills & Competencies**:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with both dogs and people.
- Patience, empathy, and a calm demeanor when working with dogs of various temperaments and energy levels.
- Ability to manage multiple dogs in a group setting while keeping control of the class dynamics.
- Knowledge of dog body language and the ability to assess and adjust training methods accordingly.

**Certifications (preferred)**:
- Certification from a recognised dog training organization such as:

- ** Cert IV in Animal Behaviour & Training**(or equivalent)
- ** Cert III in Dog Behaviour & Training** (or equivalent)
- ** Fear-Free Certification** (Highly preferred)
- ** Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA)**:

- ** Karen Pryor Academy (KPA-CTP)**:

- Other relevant certifications or training.

**Availability**:
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including weekdays and Saturdays on a rotating schedule.

- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet during training sessions.
- Professional and sincere when interacting with clients and their pets.
