Complete a 4‑ or 5‑year apprenticeship (dual trade), gaining a nationally recognised trade qualification while working on Caterpillar equipment and the latest technology. You’ll build strong hands‑on skills while training in modern facilities and workshops with expert support. Based in Tomago this program sets you up for long‑term career growth—from technical roles to leadership and beyond. As a WesTrac Apprentice, you will learn how to:
- Read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Inspect and repair a range of Caterpillar parts and components
- Accurately take measurements to ensure parts meet required tolerances and specifications
- Operate lathes and CNCs
- Repair and test hydraulic cylinders
- Safely operate workshop equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes and tools
- Maintain a safe working environment
- Navigate Caterpillar systems to ensure all work is done in accordance with Caterpillar’s quality standard About you:
- Must be 16 years or older by December 2026
- Australian working rights (Citizen or Permanent Resident)
- Robust communication, reading and writing skills
- Genuine interest in mechanical trades, machinery or hands‑on learning
- Driver’s licence and reliable transport (or close to obtaining one) with ability to travel to work and training
- Honest, reliable and dependable
