The Parks and Gardens branch is responsible for the care, management and operation of a comprehensive network of public open space and recreational areas on the Sunshine Coast, which have been established for active and passive recreation for the community and the preservation of the natural features of landscape and environment.
The Arboricultural Assessment Officer assists the operational activities of the Arboriculture Services Unit and participates in the supervision and management of work teams involved in the maintenance of street and park trees managed by Council, including:
- Responding to customer enquiries for tree maintenance, conducting tree assessments, developing appropriate work instructions and relaying outcomes to customers. Liaise with and supervise delivery of scoped works via contractors and internal staff.
- Ensuring that all tree management requests are completed in a timely manner and according to agreed service levels.
- Assisting the Council Arborist and Arboricultural Services Delivery Leaders to provide skilled, technical advice to Council, the community, and all relevant parties in relation to tree management.
- Assisting the Council Arborist and Arboricultural Services Delivery Leaders with the development and implementation of initiatives, programs, policies and guidelines for the sound management and maintenance of the trees under the care and control of Council.
- Promoting awareness of tree issues and the importance of tree protection measures to internal and external stakeholders.
**About you**
We are looking for someone who shares our passion and love for trees. If the following sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you.
- Certificate IV in Arboriculture or an appropriate discipline or equivalent competency gained through structured training and/or experience heavily weighted towards arboriculture. Certificate III holders with demonstrated relevant industry experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated advanced verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively, negotiate desired outcomes and influence groups and people at all levels in the organisation and external customers and suppliers.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and co-ordinating work groups involved in the maintenance of trees and operations of arboricultural machinery, including scoping and estimation.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of relevant legislation of Australian Standards and Statutory Guidelines related to the management and maintenance of urban trees.
