The Role We are seeking a commercially astute and strategically minded
Chief Financial Officer
to join our executive team at our Maroochydore Head office. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO is responsible for leading the financial strategy, performance, and governance of the business and plays a critical part in driving sustainable growth, strengthening financial discipline, and supporting strategic decision‑making at Board and Executive level.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee all financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
Deliver accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including Board reporting and insights
Manage the monthly close process and ensure adherence to reporting timetables and standards
Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and ongoing financial planning processes across all business units
Provide strategic financial advice to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to support growth and operational performance
Establish and maintain robust governance, compliance, and internal control frameworks across the organisation
Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements, including BAS, tax obligations, payroll tax, and corporate reporting
Drive enterprise risk management practices, including risk identification, mitigation strategies, and ongoing monitoring
Implement and oversee fraud prevention, detection, and response frameworks to safeguard company assets
Lead external audit processes and maintain strong relationships with auditors, advisors, and financial institutions
Drive continuous improvement across financial systems, reporting capability, and digital transformation initiatives, including the use of AI and automation
Develop and mentor a high‑performing finance team, focusing on capability building, succession planning, and engagement
Support strategic planning initiatives and play a key role in evaluating growth opportunities, investments, and capital allocation
Contribute to the Whittens Family Office, including financial oversight and investment strategy support
About You
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting (essential); CA/CPA highly regarded
Minimum 10 years’ experience in a senior finance leadership role, ideally within civil construction, contracting, or project‑based industries
Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated experience partnering at executive and Board level
Proven capability in financial control, governance, compliance, and enterprise risk management
Experience leading high‑performing teams and building strong finance functions
Advanced understanding of project financials, cost control, and forecasting in complex environments
Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills
