Hyundai Rotem Company (HRC) was founded in 1977 and since that time, has been leading the industry globally by delivering critical national infrastructure in over 50 countries. A leader in the Korean rail industry, HRC has succeded in developing high-speed trains and is now establishing their presence in the Australian market. Currently, the Australian operation of HRC is working on two major projects:
- The New Intercity Fleet (NIF) Project
- a joint venture between HRC, UGL and MEA, this project is delivering a fleet of new intercity trains for operation in the NSW electrified rail network. The fleet comprises of 55 Long Units and 70 Short Units for the Newcastle, Blue Mountains, South Coast and Central Coast Lines; and
- The Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP)
- a project commissioning, designing and constructing a new manufacturing facility in Torbanlea Qld and a new maintenance facility in Ormeau Qld. It includes manufacturing and delivering 65 EMU Train sets (390 cars) by the end of 2031. Combined local and international design teams and suppliers will work together to ensure the delivery of manufacturing requirements and associated documentation to ensure that train sets locally manufactured in Australia meet the design, compliance, manufactuability, reliability, maintainability and safety specifications for the trains operational life for a minimum of at least 35 years. About the Role This role is located in Torbanlea, Harvey Bay, reporting to the Production Control Manager, the Configuration Manager is responsible for maintaining the integrity, traceability and accuracy of all rollingstock configuration data and documentation. You will take ownership of configuration management processes, engineering change control, documentation governance and configuration compliance across manufacturing and project delivery activities. This role requires a highly organised and technically capable professional who can work across engineering, quality, production and supply chain teams to ensure configuration accuracy and manufacturing integrity at all stages of the project. Key Responsibilities
- Manage configuration management plans, procedures and governance processes
- Maintain accurate configuration databases, BOMs, software records and documentation
- Control engineering changes, variations, departures and configuration updates
- Assess proposed configuration changes and evaluate impacts on safety, compliance and performance
- Coordinate approval and implementation of authorised engineering changes
- Maintain configuration accounting records and implementation traceability
- Conduct audits and inspections to verify configuration accuracy and integrity
- Implement controls to minimise discrepancies and documentation errors
- Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, operations and supply chain stakeholders
- Provide configuration reporting and support vehicle acceptance documentation activities About You To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Degree qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline
- Previous experience in Configuration Management within rail, rollingstock, manufacturing, defence, heavy industry or similarly complex engineering environments
- Strong understanding of engineering documentation, BOM structures and change control processes
- Experience managing technical data, configuration records and compliance documentation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- High attention to detail and process discipline
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced project environment
- Robust stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Working knowledge of SAP and other enterprise systems highly regarded
