- Full time, Fixed term for 2 years based in Fishermans Bend, Victoria About The Opportunity The University of Tasmania seeks a post‑doctoral researcher to undertake numerical and experimental fluid dynamics research into propulsor performance. The position is funded by Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) and is based on the DSTG site at Fishermans Bend, Victoria. The appointee will work with the Hydrodynamics Science and Technology Capability group within the Platforms Division of DSTG. The appointee will research propulsor performance and noise using numerical methods, analysis of data, and communication of results. The appointee will also contribute to experimental measurements of propulsors conducted at the Cavitation Research Laboratory at the Newnham Campus. What You’ll Do
- Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
- Undertake high‑quality research in turbulent, multi‑phase and cavitating flow physics and how these relate to fluid‑structure interactions, acoustics and overall performance of maritime platforms. These activities will include:
- Conducting research from conception of ideas, through execution of numerical predictions, data analysis, and communication of results.
- Contribute to conceptualisation, execution and data analysis of laboratory experiments conducted at the Cavitation Research Laboratory.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and locally, nationally and internationally with the discipline, relevant interdisciplinary domains, profession, industry and/or wider community.
- Work cooperatively with academic and qualified staff on research, technical and administrative tasks. What We’re Looking For
- A PhD in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
- A demonstrated understanding of, commitment to, and enthusiasm for, research in the field of fluid mechanics.
- Demonstrated ability to perform numerical predictions in fluid mechanics research with experience in experimental measurements also highly regarded.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team to conduct and report on scientific research.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills. Salary details Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $155,885 comprising base salary within the range of $114,766 to $133,235 plus 17% superannuation. Eligibility To be eligible for this position, you are required to be an Australian citizen and able to obtain and maintain a personal security clearance of Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1).
