Role Description This is a full time Senior / Associate Fire Safety Engineer role based in Melbourne, VIC, offered on a hybrid basis with flexibility to work from home part of the week. The role involves developing fire safety and life safety strategies for buildings and infrastructure projects, including performance-based designs and compliance with relevant codes and standards. The engineer will prepare technical reports, fire engineering briefs, and fire safety analysis, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and approval authorities. Daily responsibilities include reviewing building designs for fire and life safety performance, advising on fire suppression systems, and providing risk assessments and mitigation strategies. The role also includes mentoring junior team members, contributing to project planning and fee proposals, and supporting continuous improvement in fire safety engineering practices within the business. Qualifications
- Strong technical expertise in Fire Protection Engineering and Fire Safety, including performance-based and prescriptive design approaches.
- Demonstrated experience with Life Safety and Safety Engineering principles applied to buildings and infrastructure.
- Practical knowledge of Fire Suppression Systems (e.g., sprinklers, hydrants, gaseous systems) and their integration with overall fire safety strategies.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Fire Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Familiarity with Australian building codes, fire safety regulations, and relevant standards (e.g., NCC, AS1851, AS2118 or equivalent).
- Proven ability to prepare clear, concise technical reports and communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary project teams, with strong collaboration, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Skilled accreditation or eligibility for membership with a relevant engineering institution (e.g., Engineers Australia, SFPE) is highly regarded.
