The Maintenance Planning Manager is a senior leader within the VRMC Contract Leadership Team, responsible for the compliant, efficient planning, programming, and real-time monitoring of all VRMC works across the South Central Region to support Section 750 compliance and optimal network performance. Based from our Clayton office in the Network Intelligence & Operations Centre (NIOC), the Maintenance Planning Manager leads a team of 8 with a mix of direct and indirect reports. The role partners closely with the Asset Strategy Manager, Delivery Manager, Business Performance Manager, client representatives and delivery partners to prioritise hazards and defects, schedule client‑approved programs, manage jeopardy and status reporting, and ensure routine inspection and asset data is collected, analysed, and enriched to inform works prioritisation. Collectively with the other members of the Contract Leadership Team, the incumbent champions Service Stream values and HSEQ obligations. Key Responsibilities
- Engage, onboard, train, develop and retain a diverse and high-performing team for effective running of the Network Intelligence & Operations Centre (NIOC) and execution of all Planning, Monitoring and Optimization functions
- Work closely with the Contact Manager, Asset Strategy Manager, Delivery Manager, Business Performance Manager and client representatives to prioritize Hazard & Defect Identification and Rectification Works and Planned Works.
- Plan and bundle work to allow the contract to increase the efficiency of delivery against approved client budgets and programs
- Oversee scheduling of Works in accordance with client‑approved programs, completing all pre‑Works enabling activities and undertaking real‑time monitoring, jeopardy management and status reporting of in‑progress Works across the network.
- Foster strong working relationships with colleagues on the Contract Leadership Team, the wider VRMC team, client representatives, delivery partners (subcontractors), and other internal and external stakeholders
- Develop, implement and continually improve processes and procedures for the maintenance planning function to drive service performance outcomes.
- Provide leadership to 24/7 aspects of the business as needed. About You
- At least five years’ experience in leadership roles focused on Network Operations, planning and program management for reactive and long‑term maintenance and/or capital/project works programs with annual budgets > $30 million
- Experience in industries such as civil engineering, road construction, utilities, maintenance, resources or heavy manufacturing.
- Sound knowledge of civil construction and/or network operation management practices, including access, permit and licensing requirements for road maintenance operations
- Advanced project and program management skills
- A highly organized and deadline‑focused individual but adaptable to changing requirements and priorities
- A drive for service excellence, underpinned by solid communication and stakeholder management skills developed in an environment subject to daily government and public scrutiny
- Expertise in using asset management/works information management systems, a capacity for data analysis and familiarity with AI and Machine Learning tools.
- A current Victorian Driver’s License is mandatory.
- Formal qualifications in engineering, business, asset management, project management and/or process/operational improvement methodologies are a bonus, but not essential if you can demonstrate equivalent capability and experience. Benefits of working with us
