Packaging & Sustainability Technologist (Melbourne)

What you'll do: We have an exciting opportunity for a Packaging & Sustainability Technologist to help shape the future of sustainable packaging across our Private Label portfolio. Reporting to the Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Manager — and working closely with Product Development, Category, Brand & Marketing, Retail Business Development, and our Sustainability team — this role delivers practical, commercially viable packaging solutions aligned to APCO requirements. You'll assess recyclability, conduct PREP evaluations, and guide suppliers toward lower-impact materials that balance sustainability, cost, quality and continuity of supply. If you're a technically minded problem-solver who loves translating sustainability ambitions into real-world packaging outcomes, this could be the perfect next step. What you'll bring: Strong knowledge of packaging materials, processing technologies and APCO requirements; relevant regulator or direct APCO engagement preferred. Experience conducting ARL recyclability assessments using the PREP platform. Proven ability to work with packaging and raw material suppliers to assess material capabilities and alternatives. Proactive in monitoring industry developments and translating APCO guidance into practical business actions. High attention to detail with strong accountability to ensure data integrity, compliance and quality. Bachelor's degree in Packaging Technology, Packaging Engineering, Materials Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Design (with packaging specialisation), Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related technical discipline.
