- A platform architect championing cloud governance & standards Sydney| Melbourne, Australia Technical Architect Full time Perm or Contract Synapsewerx is supporting our large retail customer , one of Australia’s largest retailers with 200,000+ team members nationwide, by engaging an experienced cloud platform Technical Architect who can design enterprise patterns and guardrails for their cloud platforms. This is a practitioner role. You will be hands‑on, producing designs, setting standards, and working alongside engineering and delivery teams to ensure solutions are both technically sound and commercially pragmatic. This role is ideally suited to someone with extensive GCP or Azure experience. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain reference architectures, solution designs, and technical standards across cloud and infrastructure domains.
- Create High-Level (HLD) and Low-Level Designs (LLD) that are ready for engineering teams to execute via Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
- Work at the coalface with DevOps and Platform Engineers to ensure architectural patterns are buildable, maintainable, and don't create developer friction.
- Architect enterprise-grade solutions across GCP and Microsoft Azureenvironments.
- Represent Infrastructure Architecture at project working groups, governance forums, and Architecture Review Board (ARB) sessions.
- Embed security‑by‑design principles across all architecture work.
- Ensure solutions comply with enterprise risk, compliance, and governance frameworks.
- Partner with Enterprise and Domain Architects, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to align solutions to organisational strategy.
- Liaise with vendors and service providers to stay ahead of roadmap changes
- 10+ years in IT, with a minimum of 3years in a cloud or infrastructure architecture role.
- Demonstrable hands‑on expertise with GCP ?Azure— spanning compute, networking, identity, security, and governance at enterprise scale.
- Proven ability to produce clear architecture documentation and present confidently to senior technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Enterprise-scale experience in environments with high-availability and business-critical uptime requirements.
- Experience within a Tier-1 or boutique technology consultancy, with a proven track record of delivering cloud transformation roadmaps and architecture for enterprise clients. Highly Desirable Skills
- Google Cloud Champion, Microsoft MVP (Azure), or similar industry recognition. We value candidates who contribute to the broader ecosystem through speaking, blogging, or open‑source contributions.
- Experience in retail, logistics, or high‑volume consumer‑facing environments.
- Deep GCP architecture experience, including BigQuery, Cloud Networking, and GCP data or AI/ML platform services (e.g. Vertex AI, Dataflow).
- Knowledge of Zero Trust network and identity architecture principles.
- Practical Claude Code / Cowork or Gemini Pro / Vertex AI expertise
