Description
We care about people and the world. We seek out areas of social need and policy failure and make transformational change using research, design and technology. Our clients are as passionate as we are — working in government agencies and socially‑minded businesses, as well as Australia's most recognised tech companies. Our technology consultants provide leadership and technical uplift inside client organisations for periods ranging from three months to over a year, working on large‑scale cloud infrastructure, high‑availability systems and real engineering problems that matter. This role sits within our embedded consulting practice called “Midnyte.” Responsibilities
- Embedded in a client’s engineering team, lead the design and implementation of a new AWS landing zone or infrastructure migration.
- Conduct performance and scalability assessments, analyse execution plans, identify bottlenecks and deliver clear, evidence‑based recommendations.
- Pair with a client or Portable developer on tricky infrastructure problems to provide guidance and cleaner solutions.
- Contribute to internal Portable Deep Dive sessions on cloud or DevOps topics.
- Collaborate with a producer and client stakeholders to scope upcoming work, shape architectural decisions, and keep delivery on track. Qualifications
- Deep, hands‑on AWS expertise, ideally with AWS Professional or Specialist certifications.
- Experience designing and implementing cloud landing zones, multi‑account architectures, and global‑scale infrastructure.
- Highly proficient with infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform, AWS CDK, or similar) as a standard practice.
- Built and maintained CI/CD pipelines for complex, production‑grade systems.
- Robust Linux and Windows systems knowledge.
- Understanding of cloud economics at a practical level.
- Experience with database performance and scalability assessment across SQL and cloud‑native data patterns.
- Work in regulated or security‑conscious environments with secure‑by‑default thinking.
- Ability to work closely with client engineering teams, communicate clearly, build trust quickly, and operate with a high degree of autonomy.
- Principal or engineering‑manager‑level practitioner: technically excellent, adaptable across stacks, and comfortable working without a people‑management brief.
- Curiosity and generosity: share knowledge, engage seriously with problems, and improve surrounding teams.
- We are also interested in candidates with backgrounds in observability, site‑reliability engineering, or complex software development for embedded consultant roles. Benefits
- Salary range: $138,000–$200,000 plus superannuation.
- Flexible work arrangements: hybrid and remote options, flexible hours, and personalised start/finish times; expect 3–4 days a week in the Portable local office or at the client site.
- Enhanced leave: bonus annual leave based on tenure, purchasable additional leave, paid volunteering leave, and paid mental‑health days with no explanation required.
- Growth and development: $2,000 annual professional development allowance, two working days off, structured career pathways, twice‑yearly salary reviews, and access to our Emerging Leaders program.
- Wellbeing support: up to four counselling sessions per year through our EAP with The Mindroom.
- Financial incentives: profit‑sharing bonus, employee share plan options, and salary‑sacrifice arrangements.
- Family‑friendly policies: enhanced parental leave and versatile arrangements around family commitments. We are committed to building a diverse and equal team. People from groups which are typically underrepresented in technology leadership are strongly encouraged to apply. #J-18808-Ljbffr Apply on Kit Job: kitjobau.com/job/3rn1pz
