About the Role This is a full‑time, fixed‑term (3 year) Trainee Clinical Perfusionist position, working 76 hours per fortnight in the Cardiac Surgery (Perfusion) Department. The role focuses on acquiring the skills necessary to manage patients undergoing procedures that support the heart and lungs, primarily operating the heart‑lung machine during open‑heart surgery and managing patients placed on ECMO. Classification: Medical Scientist, RCH Clinical Perfusionist, Grade 1 Yr 1‑3. Base salary $83,902 – $97,843 per annum, plus superannuation. Responsibilities
- Deliver and take responsibility for perfusion services supporting advanced life support during cardiac surgery and ECMO.
- Participate in a 24‑hour on‑call perfusion roster.
- Contribute to research in extracorporeal life support and related technologies.
- Engage in ongoing career development to maintain best‑practice clinical standards.
- Provide education and training to allied health, medical, and nursing staff.
- Balance full‑time Master’s level study with supervised clinical training concurrently.
- Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team in a patient‑facing environment.
- Complete the trainee position over a three‑year period. Other Requirements
- Current National Criminal Record Check, or willingness to obtain one.
- Valid Working with Children Check.
- Compliance with RCH’s “Staff Immunisation – Prevention of Vaccine‑Preventable Diseases” procedure.
