Board Director (Melbourne)

GenWest is one of the only organisations in Victoria operating across the full family violence intervention continuum — from primary prevention through to crisis response and recovery. Based in Melbourne's west, GenWest works with and for the communities of one of Australia's most culturally diverse regions, and everything it does is grounded in feminist, intersectional values. With a newly endorsed Strategic Plan (2026–28) and an ambitious agenda — expanding into adult counselling services, strengthening system advocacy, and diversifying its funding base — GenWest is seeking up to four new Non-Executive Directors to join its Board. What GenWest is looking for GenWest is building a stable, committed and highly skilled Board. The Board is particularly interested in candidates who bring depth in one or more of the following areas:
- Family violence, women's health or community services sector knowledge
- Policy, advocacy and government engagement
- Board governance and fiduciary oversight
- Legal, regulatory or compliance experience
- Finance, audit and risk
- Clinical governance and practice excellence
- CEO or senior executive leadership experience GenWest is also actively seeking candidates who bring lived experience relevant to its mission, solid connection to Melbourne's western suburbs, and cultural credibility within CALD or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Diversity and representation are key priorities for GenWest reflecting the community that they serve. The commitment These are voluntary, non‑remunerated positions. The Board meets eight times per year (first Wednesday evening, rotating in‑person and online), with quarterly committee meetings. Total commitment is approximately eight hours per month.
