Disability and Inclusion Coordinator (Melbourne)

River Nile School is an independent specialist secondary school located in North Melbourne, supporting young women from refugee and refugee-like backgrounds who have experienced significant disruption to their education and lives prior to arriving in Australia. As the school continues to grow and expand across multiple campuses, this newly created role forms an important part of strengthening inclusive practice and disability support systems across the organisation. Position Purpose (abridged – full details within the applicant information pack) The Disability and Inclusion Coordinator is a dedicated leadership role responsible for overseeing River Nile School’s approach to disability inclusion, NCCD compliance and inclusive educational practice across the school. Reporting to the Assistant Principal of Wellbeing, the role works closely with teachers, wellbeing staff, learning support workers and mental health practitioners to ensure students receive appropriate adjustments and support. The successful candidate will lead NCCD processes, maintain audit‑ready evidence and documentation, support staff in implementing inclusive classroom practices, and contribute to the school’s broader inclusion initiatives, including cultural responsiveness, reconciliation and maintaining a rainbow‑friendly setting. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the NCCD assessment, moderation and classification process across the school, ensuring compliance and audit readiness
- Support teachers and learning support workers in documenting adjustments and implementing inclusive classroom practices
- Provide coaching, mentoring and professional learning around disability inclusion, NCCD requirements and trauma‑informed practice
- Collaborate with wellbeing teams, students and families to identify and respond to disability‑related needs
- Contribute to broader inclusion initiatives including reconciliation, cultural responsiveness and scalable systems for future campus growth About You
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the NCCD framework, evidence requirements and audit processes
- Experience supporting students with disability, diverse learning needs or trauma‑related psychological disabilities
- Strong understanding of trauma‑informed and culturally responsive practice
- Proven ability to build staff capability and support inclusive teaching practices
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Current Victorian Working with Children Check or VIT
- Understanding of Victorian Child Safe Standards and child safety obligations
- Right to work in Australia
