As Activity Centre and Economic Development Coordinator, you will drive the economic vitality of the municipality — supporting local businesses, attracting investment, and activating key precincts to create a more liveable, connected community. Leading a multidisciplinary team of specialists — including business development, community infrastructure planning, and strategic project delivery — you will shape and deliver ambitious initiatives that balance economic growth with liveability, affordable housing, and climate resilience. - Lead the day-to-day operations of the Activity Centre and Economic Development team, fostering a high‑performance culture aligned with MVCC's Corporate Strategy.
- Provide strategic advice, briefings, and recommendations to the Manager, Director, and Executive Leadership Team.
- Develop and deliver a team business plan that drives business support services, attracts investment, and activates Moonee Valley's key activity centres.
- Manage and grow a multidisciplinary team, coaching and mentoring staff to build capability and drive continuous improvement.
- Drive a project management culture — overseeing project scopes, milestones, resources, risk, and budgets across the team's portfolio.
- Build and sustain meaningful partnerships with businesses, government agencies, landowners, developers, and community stakeholders.
- Contribute to strategic planning for affordable housing, community infrastructure, and the activation of under‑utilised Council land.
- Represent MVCC in external forums and collaborations, maintaining current knowledge of State and Federal Government policies. What You Will Bring
- Extensive experience in economic development, urban planning, community infrastructure, or complex project delivery — with local government exposure highly regarded.
- Demonstrated people leadership skills, including experience developing high‑performing teams and setting team priorities.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills — the ability to negotiate, influence, and build productive relationships across business, government, and community.
- Sound project management, budgeting, and financial management capabilities.
- Political acumen and sound judgement in navigating complex, sensitive, or politically charged situations.
- Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing Council reports, business cases, and grant applications.
- A track record of driving continuous improvement and managing change effectively.
- Experience developing partnerships for complex, multi‑stakeholder initiatives (desirable). Key Selection Criteria
- Extensive and diverse experience in economic development, urban and/or community infrastructure planning or complex project delivery.
- Experience in developing work programmes for teams, setting priorities, and delivering on programmes to achieve organisational goals.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills incorporating political, social, legal, economic and financial acumen.
- Effective judgement and decision‑making skills for complex, sensitive and politically charged issues and situations.
- Well‑developed interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate, negotiate, influence and motivate others.
- Ability to form and maintain productive relationships with key partners.
