About the Role The First Peoples’ Advisor is a pivotal role in supporting MBS to deepen its relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and to embed cultural knowledge, integrity, and respect across the School. Reporting to our Chief of Staff within the Dean’s Office, in this role, you will:
- Lead the development and delivery of MBS’s Indigenous Strategy (or Reconciliation Action Plan)
- Provide trusted cultural advice to guide decision-making across the School
- Work in partnership with communities, Elders, and stakeholders to ensure programs and initiatives are culturally grounded and relevant
- Help create genuine pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to access and thrive in business education This role is about building trust, listening deeply, and ensuring that community voices meaningfully shape how MBS teaches, engages, and grows. Key Responsibilities Community & Relationship Leadership
- Build respectful, reciprocal relationships with Traditional Owners, Elders, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- Create and support pathways into MBS programs through strong community partnerships
- Engage with alumni, community organisations, and partners to strengthen networks and opportunities
- Represent MBS in community, education, and business forums
- Lead the co-design and implementation of a multi-year Indigenous Strategy (or RAP)
- Ensure community perspectives inform priorities, targets, and measures of success
- Support culturally inclusive outreach, recruitment, and engagement initiatives Cultural Integrity in Programs
- Work alongside academic and professional staff to embed Indigenous perspectives in curriculum and programs
- Provide guidance to ensure teaching, policies, and student experiences are culturally safe and respectful
- Develop practical tools and frameworks that support staff to engage appropriately and confidently Building Cultural Capability
- Support initiatives that strengthen cultural understanding and capability across MBS
- Contribute to a culturally safe and inclusive environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, staff, and partners
- Encourage shared responsibility across the School for embedding respectful practices About You You are a trusted community member or practitioner who brings both cultural knowledge and the ability to work within complex organisations. You will bring:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity and strong connections to community
- A deep understanding of cultural protocols, community priorities, and contemporary issues
- Experience in community engagement, education, program delivery, or similar fields
- The ability to build genuine, respectful relationships across communities and organisations.
- Confidence to provide advice and influence senior stakeholders
- Strong communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills
