Cybersecurity & Systems Engineer Downer Professional Services We play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. What You’ll Do
- Conduct penetration testing and vulnerability assessments across applications, networks, and infrastructure to identify and mitigate security risks.
- Perform security risk assessments and maintain accreditation compliance with frameworks such as ISM, Essential Eight, DISP, ISO 27001, and NIST standards.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and executive summaries communicating security findings, risks, and recommended mitigation strategies.
- Contribute to system design, integration, and verification activities, ensuring security controls are embedded throughout the system development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Administer and maintain operating systems and virtualization environments, supporting patch management, user account management, backup/recovery, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting complex system issues. What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience in penetration testing, vulnerability management, and security risk assessment within complex environments.
- Strong systems engineering and administration background, with hands‑on expertise in Windows and Linux administration, including security hardening and patch management.
- Familiarity with government and defence system accreditation processes, along with networking, virtualization, and cloud platform experience.
- Ability to produce high‑quality technical and executive‑level reports that communicate complex security findings effectively.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., OSCP, CISSP, CEH) and/or systems engineering qualifications (e.g., INCOSE CSEP, ITIL), complemented by scripting/automation skills and knowledge of DevSecOps practices. Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
