Job Details Job No.: Location: Clayton campus Employment Type: Full-time Duration: 12 month fixed-term appointment Remuneration: $86,344
- $99,179 pa + 17% superannuation Opportunity An exciting opportunity is available for an emerging researcher to join the Autophagy and Mitochondrial Quality Control Laboratory within the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI). Working within a team-oriented and technically advanced research environment, you will contribute to translational research investigating autophagy, mitophagy and Parkinson’s disease biology, helping generate discoveries that may shape future therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative disease. Responsibilities As the Research Officer, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of high‑quality laboratory research outcomes and day‑to‑day research operations. Your day‑to‑day activities will include:
- Contributing to experimental workflows, data analysis and laboratory coordination activities while supporting students and researchers across the laboratory environment
- Assisting with cell culture and gene editing workflows
- Performing molecular biology and biochemistry techniques including PCR, plasmid construction and Western blotting
- Conducting confocal microscopy and mitophagy reporter assays
- Engaging in translational neurodegeneration and mitochondrial biology research projects
- Supporting research training, laboratory operations and scientific data management
- Collaborating within a multidisciplinary biomedical research environment Qualifications You will bring:
- An honours degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or a related discipline
- Experience working within a laboratory or biomedical research setting
- Experience with human cell culture
- Proficiency with core molecular biology and biochemistry techniques
- Strong organisational, analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate research records
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively
- A proactive approach and willingness to contribute across both research and laboratory operations
