Remote Mechanical Engineer for AI Training and Evaluation …, Melbourne
Description
Mechanical Engineering Expert (AI Training)

About The Role

We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers to make it happen. As a Mechanical Engineering Expert, you'll challenge advanced AI systems with complex engineering problems, audit their reasoning, and help shape how the next generation of AI understands the physical world.

This is a unique opportunity to leverage your deep technical knowledge in a flexible, fully remote contract role — no prior AI experience required.

- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

- Design Challenging Problems — Craft advanced mechanical engineering problems across domains including FEA (Finite Element Analysis), fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, kinematics, and material science to probe and stress-test AI reasoning.
- Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Develop rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for AI learning and evaluation.
- Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated responses, CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO).
- Sharpen AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors in AI outputs — such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or flawed kinematic assumptions — and provide structured feedback to improve model performance.

Who You Are

- Advanced Degree — Master's (pursuing or completed) or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Domain Expertise — Strong foundational knowledge in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes.
- Transparent Communicator — Able to explain complex physical phenomena and technical reasoning in precise, well-structured written form.
- Detail-Oriented — High precision when reviewing mathematical derivations, unit conversions, dimensional analysis, and physical system constraints.
- No AI experience required — we'll get you up to speed.

Nice to Have

- Experience with data annotation, data quality assessment, or AI evaluation workflows
- Proficiency in engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, ANSYS, or similar tools
- Familiarity with failure mode analysis or engineering standards documentation
