Senior Engineer (Ruby on Rails) (Melbourne)

At Chargefox, we’re building the technology that powers Australia’s largest EV charging network. We’re now looking for a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This is an opportunity to work on meaningful, large-scale technology challenges in a fast-moving environment where your ideas, technical expertise, and leadership will genuinely influence the future direction of the platform. You’ll play a key role in designing, building, and scaling our core systems while helping drive engineering best practices, mentoring others, and contributing to architectural decisions that support our next phase of growth. What you’ll be doing You’ll work closely with Product, Design, Engineering, and Data teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions that support both our customers and the broader AMS Group ecosystem. Some of your focus areas will include:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable applications using Ruby on Rails
- Contributing to architecture and technical strategy discussions
- Improving system performance, reliability, and security
- Collaborating closely with our Data team to support Chargefox’s evolving data journey and insights capability
- Supporting integration of Chargefox data into the wider AMS Group environment
- Leading code reviews and promoting strong engineering practices
- Mentoring engineers across the team and contributing to a collaborative, high-performing culture
- Taking ownership of technical outcomes and solving complex engineering problems What you’ll bring We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical depth with curiosity, pragmatism, and a genuine team-first mindset. Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Strong commercial Ruby and Ruby on Rails experience, ideally across complex production environments
- Experience working with domain-driven design concepts such as aggregates, value objects, and domain events
- Exposure to modern architecture patterns including modular monoliths or engines-based architectures
- Experience partnering with data teams and working with platforms such as Snowflake and Hevo
- Strong problem-solving capability and attention to detail
- The ability to work autonomously and take ownership of outcomes
- A thoughtful communication style with an emphasis on clean, maintainable code and well-reasoned technical decisions Nice to have:
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or broader DevOps tooling
- Frontend exposure, particularly Hotwire, Stimulus, or ViewComponents Who we are and why join us?
