What To Expect The Tesla Power Systems Engineering, APAC team specialises in grid connection studies across Australia, New Zealand, China, and Taiwan, leveraging deep expertise to seamlessly integrate battery energy storage systems into the grid. The Intern will play a pivotal role supporting our engineers and helping to shape the future of the APAC energy landscape. You will have a unique opportunity to join the Power Systems team in developing and negotiating Generator Performance Standards (GPS) to ensure compliance and operational excellence. In this role, you will collaborate closely with project developers, specialised study consultants, Network Service Providers (NSPs), and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) to navigate complex grid connection requirements. Furthermore, you will have the exciting prospect to leverage Tesla’s cutting‑edge Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) simulation facilities located in Melbourne or Brisbane to validate models, test advanced control systems, and drive technical innovation. This role is crucial in driving our commitment to sustainable energy solutions and grid reliability. What You’ll Do
- Support simulation model development and testing.
- Support automation tool (Python) development and testing.
- Support NEM connection studies to assess the impact of new generators on the power system’s stability and reliability.
- Support preparation of technical reports and documentation for stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Opportunity to use Tesla’s cutting‑edge hardware in loop. What You’ll Bring
- Completing Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
- Basic understanding of Australian energy market regulations, grid codes, and technical standards.
- Advantageous to have some experience in power system analysis software (e.g., PSCAD, PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
- Experience utilising AI agents to perform automation tasks is advantageous.
- Experience in Python scripting is advantageous.
