Technical Software Lead – Retail POS and Store Automation …, Melbourne

We’re partnering with a global leader in retail technology — an established IT software and infrastructure vendor renowned for powering high-performing store operations across enterprise retail environments. They deliver advanced store automation solutions, including next-generation Point of Sale platforms that keep large-scale retail chains running smoothly and efficiently.They are looking for a highly skilled Technical Lead – Point of Sale Systems to take full technical ownership of their flagship POS platform in Australia. About the Role You will be the primary technical authority for the POS platform, providing architectural oversight and governance across POS, SCO, Back Office, Store Controller, and all enterprise integrations. Your key focus areas include:
- Owning the full technical ecosystem — from golden image standards and CI/CD pipelines to incident escalation and long-term stability
- Leading integrations with ERP, payments, loyalty, fuel systems, ServiceNow, and monitoring platforms
- Driving Major Incident Management for Severity 1 store outages and ensuring rapid, permanent remediation
- Enabling modern DevOps practices, automated testing, and deployment strategies
- Ensuring performance, security, compliance, and disaster recovery across the national estate You’ll work closely with Retail Operations, Program Directors, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, and Development teams — acting as a trusted technical advisor and mentor while producing explicit executive-level documentation. What You’ll Bring
- 7+ years of hands‑on experience in retail Point of Sale systems
- Deep understanding of retail transaction flows (sales, refunds, promotions, loyalty)
- Proven experience on national‑scale rollouts (100+ stores highly regarded)
- Strong technical foundation in Java, Windows 10/11 POS, Linux servers, databases, and networking
- Experience with modern tooling: Azure DevOps, Git, Ansible, Proxmox/VM, ServiceNow, Jira, monitoring & observability tools, Qualys, and Defender
- Solid background leading L3/L4 support, root cause analysis, and structured problem management
