Summary Under the direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities, collaborating with the general education teacher. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities.
- Monitor and evaluate student outcomes.
- Assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
- Participate in school meetings, programs and activities outside instructional hours as required by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement.
- Support behavioral interventions, including nonviolent crisis interventions where required.
- Maintain communication with students, teachers, parents and guardians of students with disabilities. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in special education.
- Fluent in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment.
- Student teaching in the area of exceptionality or at least two years of teaching experience at the appropriate level.
- Certifications: Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Standard Skilled Certification I (SPC I) in special education.
- Knowledge of MCPS curriculum, IEP, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, best instructional practices, research-based reading instruction, multicultural education, assessments, and relevant federal and state policies.
