Victoria About the organisation The Victorian Disability Worker Commission (VDWC) is an independent statutory body of the Victorian Government, established under the Disability
Service Safeguards Act . Working alongside the Disability Worker Registration Board of Victoria, the Commission helps ensure disability services are secure, professional and accountable. It receives and investigates complaints about disability workers, takes action where there is risk of harm, and maintains public registers of registered and prohibited workers. While small in size, the Commission has a solid public presence and significant regulatory authority. About the role The Victorian Disability Worker Commissioner is appointed by the Governor in Council and reports to the Minister for Disability. The Commissioner leads the Commission as its statutory head and regulates the conduct of unregistered disability workers, including receiving and assessing complaints, conducting investigations, and issuing prohibition orders when required to protect people with disability. Advising the Minister on emerging risks and trends, working closely with key regulators, collaborating effectively with the department, and ensuring the Commission operates effectively, lawfully and with solid public confidence are key to the role. The Commissioner works closely with the Disability Worker Registration Board of Victoria. About you You are a senior leader with experience in regulation, investigations, complaints handling, compliance or safeguarding, and you understand what is at stake for people with disability. Your insight may come from lived experience or sustained qualified engagement with the disability community. You bring calm, balanced judgement to complex and sensitive decisions, are comfortable working within legislation and government processes, and can lead a small organisation with a high public profile. Experience as a CEO, Commissioner, Deputy or senior executive in a statutory body, regulatory authority or similar organisation is required. Knowledge of the Victorian disability sector will be well regarded.
