We’re hiring: Footwear Product Design Developer – 12-Month …, Melbourne

AtKidman Apparel, we design footwear and accessories with purpose—built for performance, comfort and real-world use. We’re now looking for a Footwear Product Design Developer (12 month parental leave cover ) to bring ideas to life across two uniquely Australian brands: the iconic Rossi Boots and the premium S.Kidman label. In this hands‑on role, you'll work across design, development, sourcing, and production to drive new product development from seasonal concept through to first delivery. This is a role for someone who thrives in both the technical and creative space and is confident balancing innovation with commercial practicality. What you’ll do:
- Collaborate with internal and supplier teams to develop new footwear styles
- Produce mood boards, concept decks, and seasonal design direction
- Conduct trend, consumer, and end‑use research to guide innovation
- Create technical specs including fit notes, materials, and components
- Partner with the Head of Footwear, Compliance Officer and pivotal internal teams to ensure all current products meet quality and performance standards
- Drive fittings, product wear testing, and supplier development
- Source materials and initiate component testing to ensure end‑use suitability and performance expectations
- Engage directly with offshore suppliers and manufacturers to drive high quality product outcomes, in accordance with seasonal timelines
- Participate in product presentations, development updates, and seasonal range reviews
- Contribute to cross‑functional collaboration with the apparel team What you’ll bring:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in footwear product development
- Extensive knowledge of footwear construction, materials, and manufacturing
- High competency using Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
- Confident user of Microsoft Office for documentation and presentations
- ERP experience (AP21 preferred)
- A creative and analytical mindset with a strong eye for detail and trends
- The ability to question, challenge, and push for better solutions
- A hands‑on, proactive approach and willingness to contribute beyond your job title
- Strong communication skills, the ability to build productive relationships and a willingness to explore solutions beyond conventional knowledge. Why work with us?
