Rumbalara Aboriginal Cooperative – Family, Care and Early Years now has the following vacancies: Yanha-Narrak Worker Full-time, 38 hours a week 3 Positions available
T his is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
About the Role Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative were chosen to participate in a trial of an Integrated Model of Care, which aims to provide a wrap around service to an individual/family who becomes a client of Community Strengthening. Each Yanha-Narrak (meaning to walk with) Worker is a member of a multi-skilled team who support Aboriginal children, young people and families involved with Child Protection. Yanha-Narrak Workers will work with families to build trust, respect, and strengthen cultural connections, to empower Aboriginal families to be the decision makers about their own affairs and provide authoritative cultural guidance to Child Protection. All Yanha-Narrak Workers will report directly to the Team Leader Ngawitpa Yarka and is responsible for supporting the Team Leader to fulfil the requirements and responsibilities relevant to the role including Aboriginal ways of working, quality and compliance, and the Strategic direction of Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative.
About You To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:
- You are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
- A tertiary qualification such as a Diploma of Community Services or equivalent is desirable, or a willingness to undertake studies to become qualified.
- Community knowledge, experience working with Aboriginal families and community recognition are highly valued.
- Understanding the importance of Aboriginal culture, both as a right and as a protective factor for Aboriginal families.
- Active listening skills and the ability to engage with Aboriginal parents, young people and children around their concerns, and their perspectives through yarning.
- Understand the Victorian Child Protection and Care System as to undertake tasks to support Aboriginal families.
- Excellent listening and writing skills including capacity to explain complex issues in an easy-to-understand language and deep listening skills to genuinely hear each person’s story, including the ability to advocate strongly on behalf of Aboriginal families.
- Assertiveness and respectful ways when convening meetings, including skills to empower family members to exercise family and cultural authority in decision making.
- Maintain the focus on keeping children and families safe within their own family environments or bringing about the change needed to achieve that safety.
- High level written communication skills, including competency in computer applications including Microsoft Word.
- Ability to think creatively and produce solutions to problems outside the box. What We Offer:
