Associate Lecturer/ Lecturer - Taronga Zoo (Mosman …, Mosman Municipal Council

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Associate Lecturer/Lecturer to join our team in Sydney and work at Taronga Zoo’s Cammerrigal Country. The role is initially a 12‑month, full‑time position with the possibility of extension. Salary is based on the TCSA Salaried Employees Award, with a base package starting from $107,131 and 12% superannuation (annual total $121,423 plus additional base depending on experience). About The Role The position will develop, deliver and assess undergraduate coursework in conservation biology, ecology, biology and related disciplines, including as part of the Bachelor of Wildlife Conservation offered by the University of Sydney. This is an education‑focused role within the University Programs team, delivering high‑quality teaching and learning across multiple units of study. Key Accountabilities
- Develop unit curriculum in consultation with the University Program Manager and stakeholders, designing high‑value learning experiences.
- Deliver undergraduate coursework—including lectures, tutorials and practical sessions—at both Taronga Zoo and the University of Sydney.
- Contribute to knowledge within your background discipline or area of expertise.
- Assist in academic unit coordination to ensure successful delivery, including coordination of facilities and resources at Taronga.
- Supervise and mark undergraduate assessments and exams.
- Teach across multiple study units, including lecturing, tutoring and demonstrating.
- Assist in training academic casuals under guidance of the University Program Manager and Lecturer.
- Collaborate with staff, researchers and academics from the University of Sydney and Taronga Conservation Society Australia.
- Work collaboratively with the University Programs team to deliver and support the cohort experience.
- Assist in the delivery of tertiary workshops, internship programs and associated tasks.
- Comply with Taronga’s Customer Service Charter and suggest initiatives for improvement, maintaining industry‑leading standards.
- Assist with WHS requirements, including hazard reporting, site inspections and risk assessments per Taronga policies.
- Act as the designated First Aid Officer for the work area when required.
- Promote sustainability practices in the workplace to help achieve Taronga’s sustainability targets and reduce environmental impact. About You
- Hold a PhD degree in conservation biology, zoology, ecology, biology or a related environmental science discipline.
- Have a strong, demonstrated track record of excellence in education, including development, delivery and assessment of undergraduate coursework.
- Have practical experience in conservation biology, conservation management or a closely related discipline.
- Have robust communication and student engagement skills.
- Obtain and maintain a current NSW Working with Children Check at own expense.
- Hold a NSW driver’s licence to enable travel between Taronga Zoo and the University of Sydney as required.
- Will be appointed as an Affiliate of the University of Sydney following nomination by Taronga, and comply with the University’s Code of Conduct, by‑laws, rules and policies relevant to teaching at Taronga. Benefits
