About the role

This is a unique prospect to lead and grow the first dedicated Book Shop being opened by Lifeline Northern Beaches, Mosman to Kirribilli in Neutral Bay
- a welcoming, community-focused space for book lovers.

You’ll take ownership of the shop’s day-to-day success while helping shape its identity, build a loyal customer base, and create an experience that keeps people coming back. Every book sold helps fund vital crisis support services, making this a role with genuine purpose.

Working closely with the Book Business Manager, you’ll play a key role in growing a distinctive and sustainable book retail offering within the local community.

What you’ll be doing Leading the day-to-day operations of the Book Shop Driving sales performance while maintaining a welcoming, engaging environment Curating book displays that encourage browsing, discovery and repeat visits Identifying valuable or unique donations and maximising their potential Building strong relationships with customers, book lovers and local supporters Recruiting, rostering and supporting a team of passionate volunteers Contributing ideas to grow the shop and broader Book Business

What we’re looking for You’re someone who enjoys hands-on retail leadership but also brings curiosity, initiative and a sense of ownership.

Experience in retail, ideally in a supervisory or management role Solid customer service and sales focus Confidence leading and inspiring people (staff and/or volunteers) A practical, organised approach with the ability to juggle priorities A genuine love of books (or at least an appreciation for their value!)

Bonus points for: Experience in second-hand, books, or not-for-profit retail An interest in building community through retail
