Located in the eastern region, Monash is a cosmopolitan and culturally diverse city, close to the demographic centre of Melbourne.The Parks and Gardens Team work within the Horticulture Department to present our great green spaces for the enjoyment of the community. About the Position We are looking for an experienced person to join our team and help keep council's gardens, parks, traffic devices and shop fronts beautiful for our community. This will include
- Maintaining and curating a range of gardens using sound horticultural skills
- Operation and minor maintenance of horticultural plant and equipment
- Small planting and landscape designs
- Work cooperatively with team members, stakeholders and contractors
- Working to the highest levels of safety and presentation to improve the amenity for our community Skills and Experience To be successful in this role you will be highly motivated, friendly, approachable, flexible and hardworking. You will be a team player who has sound horticultural knowledge and skills with a passion for horticulture and creating great green spaces and places whilst working in an ever-changing environment. Requirements
- Minimum Certificate III in Horticulture (Gardens) or other horticultural field
- Experienced in garden maintenance and grass cutting plant and equipment
- Excellent plant identification skills and knowledge of using plants successfully in various horticultural settings
- Weed identification skills and experience managing them in the landscape
- A thirst for horticultural knowledge and desire to improve species diversity in gardens
- Commitment to occupational health and safety and quality control processes
- Farm Chemical User Course
- with ACUP preferable
- Medium Rigid Truck license or willingness to obtain within 3 months of commencement Benefits
