Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented engineer to join our team for a 12‑month placement. This engineer will contribute to various phases of our instrument development lifecycle, from design and prototyping to verification and testing.
Key Responsibilities
CAD Drafting & Drawing Release Support – Assist in preparing and refining CAD models and technical drawings for specific subsystems. Contribute to drawing release packages, ensuring document control and compliance with internal standards.
Prototype Assembly & Verification – Participate in the hands‑on build of partial builds, mock‑ups, and prototype instruments. Support mechanical assembly, integration, and functional testing. Contribute to the verification of design intent through structured test procedures.
Instrument Characterisation & Metrology – Conduct precision mechanical measurements using micrometers, calipers, and other gauges. Collect and analyse measurement data from hardware and software tools. Support formal verification reports by characterising performance and tolerances.
Test Investigation & Root Cause Analysis – Support structured investigations into test anomalies or performance deviations. Assist in designing and executing follow‑up tests. Analyse results and contribute to documentation for phase review readiness.
Development of Test Fixtures – Design and fabricate simple mechanical or electromechanical test fixtures using CAD and 3D printing. Support component‑level and system‑level testing during the verification phase.
Design Calculations – Apply engineering science to predict system performance. Use insights to optimise designs and support engineering decisions.
