Senior Mining/project Engineer – Freeport Indonesia Mount Isa

The Senior Mining/Project Engineer will support the General Superintendent and Mine Operations team at the Big Gossan project. The Big Gossan Mine is a large sublevel open-stope mine producing in-excess of 250,000t per month utilizing shaft haulage and paste backfill.

The near term is full of challenges within 18 months; the project intends to embark on an expansion project to achieve 10,000 tons/day. This involves technical challenges with shaft improvements, escalation of development rates and preparation for the increased tonnage, as Senior Mining Engineer you will be expected to engage fully in this process.

Redpath undertakes the complete engineering support for the full scope of UG mining works at Big Gossan such as production and development activities, operating shaft hoist, mine construction works and short-term scheduling.

Key Responsibilities

Mentor and train national employees

Short-term planning & scheduling

Review of drill and blast stope plans

Provide technical support to mine operations team

Identify technical and operational improvement initiatives

Managing project work

Act as General Superintendent during absences

Qualifications

Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or equivalent

Excellent communication and organizational skills

Relevant experience in both underground mining production and development activities

5 years’ experience in a mechanized metalliferous underground mining setting

Exposure to underground drill and blast design functions and associated software (Deswik preferred)

Completion of practical underground time

Driver’s license

Desirable

Shift supervisor’s certificate of competency

Overseas experience

Previous experience in mine project engineering
