Pangaat Indian Restaurant is seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to join our culinary team. We are a well-established Indian dining venue known for delivering authentic regional flavours, high-quality dishes and a consistent dine-in experience. This role is critical in ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently, maintains food quality standards and delivers an exceptional customer dining experience.
The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing authentic Indian cuisine, maintaining consistency across all dishes and supporting overall kitchen operations in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan and develop menus in consultation with management, ensuring authenticity, variety, and cost efficiency aligned with customer demand.
• Estimate food and labour costs and assist in managing kitchen budgets and operational expenditure.
• Order, receive, and manage food supplies while ensuring freshness, quality, and proper stock rotation.
• Prepare, cook, and present a wide range of traditional and contemporary Indian dishes including curries, tandoori items, breads, and regional specialties.
• Monitor food quality at all stages of preparation and presentation to ensure consistency and high standards.
• Ensure all dishes are prepared according to recipes, portion control, and presentation guidelines.
• Liaise with management and front-of-house staff regarding service requirements, customer feedback, and kitchen operations.
• Demonstrate cooking techniques and provide guidance on authentic Indian cooking methods, spice blending, and preparation procedures.
• Maintain strict compliance with food safety, hygiene, and HACCP standards across all kitchen operations.
• Supervise, train, and support kitchen staff to ensure efficiency, consistency, and teamwork during service periods.
• Oversee food storage, preservation, and rotation practices to minimise waste and maintain quality.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment at all times.
Qualifications Required
• Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification (preferred but not mandatory); OR
• Diploma of Hospitality Management (preferred but not mandatory)
• Minimum 2 years of proven experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen, preferably in Indian cuisine or similar restaurant environments.
Skills and Requirements
• Strong experience in preparing authentic Indian cuisine, including curries, tandoori dishes, biryanis, breads and regional specialties.
• Ability to plan menus and manage kitchen operations in a structured and effective manner.
• Strong knowledge of stock control, cost management and kitchen budgeting.
• Ability to maintain consistent food quality under high-pressure service conditions.
• Excellent understanding of hygiene practices, food safety regulations and safe food handling procedures.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise, train and motivate kitchen staff.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with strong time management and multitasking abilities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with front-of-house and management teams.
• Attention to detail with strong focus on presentation, flavour consistency and customer satisfaction.
